Je croix aux Nuits (Ik geloof in de Nachten), in wording sinds 2016. Met zijn reeks Je crois aux Nuits onderzoekt de Belgische fotograaf Pierre Liebaert rituele activiteiten die de overgang markeren van het ene naar het andere jaar: zoals de slapende natuur die zich in winterse duisternis hult en ongeduldig wacht tot hij weer kan ontwaken bij het krieken van de dag. Het project focust op de eeuwige verbintenis tussen de mens en het ritme van de seizoenen, met de maancyclus, dat beperkingen van warmte en koude met zich meebrengt, maar ook de oogst en de kudde, seksualiteit en de dood. Het ritueel schrijft zich in in de orde van de natuur en incarneert de hyperbolische herhaling van de belangrijkste levensfasen die ieder menselijk bestaan doorloopt. Liebaert is een documentairefotograaf die de voorkeur geeft aan traagheid en zich graag helemaal onderdompelt in zijn onderwerp. Met Je crois aux Nuits speurt hij naar gebieden waar die breekbare tradities nog overleven.
Je crois aux Nuits (I believe in the Nights). The series Je crois aux Nuits by Belgian photographer Pierre Liebaert explores the ritual activities that mark the transition from one year to the next; from nature, cloaked in the darkness of its deep wintersleep, as it anxiously awaits its awakening in the light of day. The project focuses on the relationship, since time immemorial, that human beings have had with the seasons, the lunar cycle, the weather, the limitations of the heat and the cold, the harvest, the herd, and sexuality and death. Rites are inscribed in the natural order; they incarnate the hyperbolic repetition of the major events that punctuate any human existence. Pierre Liebaert is a documentary photographer who favours a slow approach and complete immersion in his chosen subject matter. In Je crois aux Nuits, he explores the territories where fragile traditions survive.
Je crois aux Nuits, en cours depuis 2016. La série Je crois aux Nuits, du photographe belge Pierre Liebaert, explore l’activité rituelle qui marque le passage d’une année à l’autre: entre le sommeil de la nature plongée dans l’obscurité hivernale et l’attente inquiète de son éveil au grand jour. Le projet se concentre sur le rapport immémorial qu’entretiennent les Hommes avec le rythme des saisons, le cycle lunaire, avec les contraintes du froid et du chaud, de la récolte et du troupeau, de la sexualité et de la mort. Le rite s’inscrit dans l’ordre de la nature et incarne la répétition hyperbolique des grandes étapes qui scandent toute existence humaine. Photographe documentaire privilégiant l’approche lente et l’immersion dans ses sujets, Pierre Liebaert sillonne avec Je crois aux Nuits les territoires où se manifestent encore ces fragiles traditions rurales.
